When And Why Alternators Fail

Replacement Guide

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits.
- Loosen and remove the accessory drive belt; note belt routing.
- Unplug electrical connectors from the alternator and remove any protective covers.
- Support the alternator, unbolt the 4 mounting points and remove the unit.
- Install the replacement alternator, tighten mounting bolts to manufacturer torque, reconnect electrical connectors and refit the belt to the correct tension.
- Reconnect the battery and verify charging system operation with the engine idling and under load.
