Description
Lock set – driver and passenger door locks, fuel filler flap lock and ignition barrel plus 1x key. One door lock needs to be freed up. From year of manufacture 2002.
This complete lock kit is designed for Citroën Xsara customers and workshop professionals who need a practical replacement for worn or seized locks. The set contains door locks for driver and passenger side, the fuel filler flap lock and an ignition barrel supplied with one key. Ideal for mechanics and experienced DIYers, the kit restores mechanical security for doors, ignition and fuel lid using original-style components identified by product codes 4162Z5 and 4162Z4.
Functionally, door locks secure vehicle access and operate the latch mechanism; the ignition barrel houses the mechanical key interface for starting and steering lock release; the fuel filler lock prevents unauthorized access to the tank. Symptoms indicating replacement include stiff or stuck door cylinders, key that does not turn smoothly in the ignition, inability to unlock the fuel flap, or intermittent locking/unlocking failures.
Installation Recommendation
Before starting, gather common workshop tools: trim removal tools, Torx/Screwdrivers, small sockets and penetrating lubricant. Typical replacement steps:
- Remove interior door trim carefully to access lock mechanism and linkage rods.
- Disconnect electrical connectors (if present) and unclip/unscrew the lock retaining fasteners.
- Release and mark linkage rods for correct reassembly; remove the old lock and fit the new unit in reverse order.
- Replace ignition barrel from under the steering column or dash panel; ensure steering lock is disengaged and barrel aligns before tightening.
- Check fuel flap lock access from the rear quarter panel or inner wheel arch depending on body version.
- After installation, verify mechanical operation of all locks, ensure rods and clips are seated, and test locking/unlocking with the supplied key.
Note: One door lock in this set is specified as needing to be “freed up” before installation—apply penetrating lubricant to the cylinder, work the key gently to loosen seized tumblers and operate the latch several times. If severe corrosion or broken components are present, the lock should be replaced rather than improvised.
Common Failure Causes
- Corrosion and Dirt: Moisture ingress and road contaminants cause tumblers and actuators to seize over time.
- Mechanical Wear: Frequent use and worn key profiles or tumblers lead to poor engagement and eventual failure.
- Broken Linkage Or Clips: Plastic clips and metal rods can fatigue or break, preventing proper latch operation.
- Electrical Actuator Failure: Where locks are assisted by actuators, motor failure or wiring issues can produce inconsistent behaviour (not applicable to purely mechanical cylinders).
There is no fixed replacement interval; failure is typically age-related. Vehicles manufactured around 2002 commonly show wear after many years in service—replacing the entire set can be more durable than swapping individual components.

This lock set is suitable for professional fitting and for competent DIY mechanics. If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic immobilizer requiring a transponder key, ensure the correct transponder is present and programmed by a qualified technician where necessary. Regular lubrication of exposed lock cylinders and keeping door seals in good condition will prolong service life and reduce the risk of seizure.
