Description
Complete ignition barrel set for Citroën Xsara Picasso, supplied with an ignition barrel and two mechanical keys. The set covers the main locking points: driver and passenger door lock cylinders and the fuel filler cap lock. Please note that the remote control and immobiliser transponder must be taken from your existing vehicle and transferred to the new keys for the system to work.
The ignition barrel performs the primary function of allowing the key to turn the steering lock and operate the vehicle electrical circuits. Typical symptoms indicating the barrel should be replaced include difficulty turning the key, intermittent contact, excessive play, or the key getting stuck. Door lock cylinders can seize after years of use and may need to be mobilised or lubricated before they operate smoothly.
Installation is straightforward for experienced technicians and competent DIY mechanics: disconnect the battery, remove the steering column trim, turn the key to the release position and remove retaining fasteners, withdraw the old barrel and fit the replacement. Reuse your vehicle’s remote control and immobiliser chip/transponder in the new key housing. If you are not confident with immobiliser systems, consult a qualified auto electrician to avoid immobilisation issues.
Common failure causes: wear of internal tumblers, corrosion from moisture ingress, broken or bent key blades, and lack of lubrication in door lock cylinders. Regular maintenance (cleaning and appropriate lubricant for locks) can extend service life, but mechanical parts will eventually need replacement after years of use.
Important: Door locks need to be freed up before fitting. In some cases door lock cylinders must be mobilised with lock spray or mechanical manipulation to restore smooth movement. Sets with fully functioning locks are also available if required.
