Overview
Left-front pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioner intended for the driver side of selected Citroën Xsara and Peugeot 306 models. Supplied with OEM PSA code 8972WQ (NFP). This is a used original part removed from a vehicle; it may show normal signs of use but is offered as a direct-fit replacement for older PSA models where the new original is no longer available.
Function
The pyro pretensioner is a safety device that, on a crash signal from the airbag control unit, activates a pyrotechnic charge to instantly retract the belt webbing. This reduces seat-belt slack and improves occupant restraint during a collision. Common failure indicators include an illuminated airbag/SRS warning light, stored SRS fault codes, or diminished belt tension/retraction.
Installation And Safety
Always disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 minutes to allow airbag system capacitors to discharge before any work. Do not probe or measure pretensioner wiring with a multimeter. Install the unit in the correct orientation for the left/driver side and tighten fasteners to the manufacturer’s torque specifications. After fitting, clear SRS fault codes with a diagnostic tool and confirm the system reports no active faults.
Service Life And Failure Causes
Pyrotechnic pretensioners are single-use safety components: if activated in a collision they must be replaced. Failures can also occur from electrical faults, corrosion, or physical damage. Timely replacement is important to maintain occupant protection.
